It is the practice of lawyers to pass on to clients many expenses, usually called “disbursements”. If you are shopping for a fixed fee quote for a particular matter, make sure that you understand whether a lawyer is quoting a lower fee, but charging as an expense or a disbursement something that another lawyer might be including as part of the basic fee. It is impossible to give an absolute, fixed fee, including expenses and GST, in all circumstances, but the lawyer should be able to give you a realistic range, for many basic, non-contentious matters.

It is not realistic to give a fixed fee estimate for most Family Law matters.
Legal Aid is accepted for Family Law matters.

I accept some Prepaid Legal Services Plans. I am willing to consider others. If you are a member of a Prepaid Legal Services Plan, and if it allows you to chose your own lawyer, I am willing to consider it.
